Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite
Xiaomi launches the Mi CC9 in Europe as the Mi 9 Lite, not the Mi A3 Pro as some had hoped.
Xiaomi is known for its high-value smartphones generally speaking. But within its diverse portfolio of devices, some products have resonated better with the audience than others. Devices like the Redmi Note 7 series have been wildly successful, clearly impressing everyone with their specification sheet and the insane value they bring to the table. Xiaomi is hoping to ride on the same wave of success by launching the new Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite in Europe.
If the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite looks familiar to you, that’s because we have seen it as the Xiaomi Mi CC9 in China. On the front, you get a 6.39″ FHD+ AMOLED display with thin bezels, a waterdrop notch, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. On the inside, you get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, 6GB of RAM and internal storage options of 64GB and 128GB. You also get a 4,030mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 support through the USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an IR Blaster, and NFC. The Mi 9 Lite comes with a decent camera setup, boasting of a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP wide-angle shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. There’s also a 32MP front camera within the waterdrop notch.
Since the Mi 9 Lite is not under the Android One program, you will spot the phone running MIUI 10 on Android 9 Pie. Users were hoping to see the Xiaomi Mi CC9 rebranded into an Android One device, likely as the Xiaomi Mi A3 Pro since the Mi CC9e was rebranded into the Mi A3, but there were no indications that the phone was launching as anything other than the Mi 9 Lite. Vocal users have not reacted positively to the obvious compromises on the Mi A3, notably the display, so seeing a better-specced phone within the Android One program would have given a capable alternative to users who did not find the Mi A3 favorable.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite is priced at €319 (~$352) for the 64GB variant and €349 (~$385) for the 128GB variant in Spain. Sales for the device begin on September 20 on the Spanish Mi Store website.
